Laura: Hello to all! Dustin and I have been in the great state of Vermont for over a month now. I started work with the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps on May the 1st, where I lead crews of teenagers in the Green Mountains building trails, restoring watersheds and wetlands, and other conservation projects. I am leading what they call a roving crew, which means I travel to a different project site in another part of the state every week. It keeps me on my toes and really lets me discover the wilderness of Vermont. I am really becoming one with the blackflies! Dustin, meanwhile, is helping out around my Grandparents farm in South Londonderry, in southern Vermont. He is fishing, taking tons of great photos, and working on clearing out all of the trees that fell in our last storm. Pepin is staying with Dustin and becoming a little mountain dog.
Dustin: Last weekend we went to New York State at the invitation of one of Laura's fellow crew leaders, his family owns huge land trust on the shores of Lake Champlain in the Adirondack Mountains dating back to the civil war. While there we visited Fort Ticonderoga as well as Lake Saranac and Lake Placid. Fort Ti was a blast, and we even got Laura to dress up in some period clothes and had her pose by a cannon. All in all we are having a blast so far, but we'll keep you posted from here on in.
