For me, one of the minor highlights of visiting any new Japanese city is seeing their artistic and interesting manhole covers. Yes, I have gotten a few strange looks for taking pictures of them, but they make the everyday and mundane into something beautiful.
Here are a few new ones that I spied while visiting Kurashiki City in Okayama prefecture last weekend:

I would love to make some rubbings of them. The Japanese seem to take delight in making the most mundane things into something beautiful, don't they?
